Plans have been approved by Neath Port Talbot Council for the creation of a new childcare facility in one of the borough’s valley communities. Developers were given the go-ahead to build a new single-storey childcare centre in High Street, Seven Sisters, at the site of a demolished care home which originally occupied the site.
The decision was made by officers from the local authority and brought before members at a recent planning committee as part of a series of delegated decisions made between November 18 and December 9. It will see the new centre built in a largely residential part of Seven Sisters that is described as being made up of reclaimed grassland and shrubbery that is currently used for informal parking.
Once completed the site will include a single-storey childcare centre with access, parking, drainage, landscaping arrangements, and other associated works. It will also include facilities such as an entrance lobby, a main indoor childcare area and an outside childcare area, along with an office, plant room, store room, kitchen, and toilets.
The report read: “The proposals would benefit the village of Seven Sisters as a childcare need has been identified both within the community and within Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s Childcare Sufficiency Audit.” It added that “the appearance of the proposed development will fit into the current surroundings of the area whilst also ensuring that it has a modern touch”.
