New garden centre replacing Homebase opens in Birmingham with ‘fresh plants every week’

A new garden centre has opened in Kings Heath following the closure of Homebase. The Range welcomed its first customers at the Findlay Road branch at 9am on Friday, January 17, with its own garden centre within.

Garden Centre by Homebase is tucked away at the back of The Range, stocking brands like Black and Decker, Miracle Gro, Flymo and Wilkinson Sword. As well as tools, the garden centre has a range of pots, water features and, of course, plants.

Because the Wilko brand is owned by The Range, the store also stocks a vast range of Wilko seeds with around 500 packets of flower and vegetable varieties. Each is coded with a letter to determine the prices ranging from 49p to £1.79.

The Range says it will stock its shelves with fresh plants every week. On opening day, there were a large number of primroses on sale as well as tulip bulbs for the new season. Bedding pansies were priced at £6 for three in the entranceway of the new store, and there was plenty of compost too.

Ornaments and lanterns are displayed outside alongside pots and lights. Inside, there are yet more garden decorations.

Upstairs the outdoor range expands further. It includes barbecues and smokers, corner dining sets for £859.99, pergolas for £669.99 and pretty outdoor floor cushions for £13.79, on a current deal.

The Range is open from 9am until 8pm every day except for Sunday when it opens at 10:30am and closes at 4:30pm.
