Fresh weather maps show the exact time forecasters expect snow to hit London today (Wednesday, January 8). From 9am this morning a Met Office snow warning for South London will be in place for 15 hours.
Also covering other parts of southern England, meteorologists say the weather system pushing south could cause disruption to rail, road and air travel. The latest maps from Netweather suggests London is most likely to see snowfall later this afternoon and evening.
Its computer model predicts there’s a 60 per cent chance of snow from 3pm, rising to about 85 per cent by 9pm. The Met Office has made similar projections, with either light snow or sleet expected across South London between 6pm and 9pm.

Meteorologist Aidan McGivern explains: “At midday we’ve got outbreaks of rain pushing into the south, but as those outbreaks of rain mix with the cold air, we’ve got these whites appearing, suggestive of a mix of rain, sleet and snow.
“When you read the text of the snow warning in the south of England, it mentions widely 2 to 5cm and a risk of 10cm in places but it’s worth reading as well about the likelihood. Now, the warning talks about a low likelihood of significant impacts from those depths of snow.”
Cool temperatures will continue throughout the remainder of this week, with the mercury not expected to climb above 3C until Saturday (January 10). Clear, sunny skies are forecast tomorrow (Thursday, January 9), but this will be followed by the coldest night of the week as temperatures plummet to -2C.
On Friday Netweather predicts snow could return to London as wintry weather barrels across the Home Counties from south Wales and Devon. The likelihood of this affecting London is much lower – about 30 per cent – while the forecast map only shows it covering parts of South West London.
On Saturday and Sunday we can expect milder conditions with highs of 10C on both days.
