New Year's Eve 2024 LIVE: Revellers expected to brave weather warnings for celebrations

Revellers looking forward to ringing in the New Year at outdoor events across the UK are set to face grim weather conditions as the Met Office has issued a slew of warnings covering much of the UK.

Six weather warnings are in place across the UK from Scotland to northern England and down the west coast, ranging from yellow snow warnings to amber rain warnings. It means iconic celebrations such as London’s fireworks are facing cold and windy conditions as they get set to welcome 2025. Edinburgh’s Hogmanay events have already been cancelled after officials made the call that weather conditions would leave it impossible for people to attend the beloved event safely.

Currently, weather warnings are in place across parts of Wales, Livepool and Blackpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Belfast with an amber weather warning issued for Inverness. The Met Office has warned of “pretty severe weather” with the London Mayor’s office saying they will be monitoring the weather ahead of tonight’s display.
