A man fears he will be unable to pay bills and buy food after being left bedbound.
The “main source of income” for Daniel Lewis, 35, is at risk after he was left bedbound, unable to work his job as a courier and leaving him with a “huge financial pressure”. After moving to the Sefton Park area in Liverpool, Daniel’s bike which he uses for his role as a delivery man, was taken from his building.
He said: “I moved in about one month ago, I had to get set up for Christmas and my birthday was last month. I’ve been going through a breakup, everything was up in the air, it has been a hard time.
“I had to leave my other job and was lucky that I had the bike to be able to keep a good income and do my delivery job. I went out on my bike on Sunday (December 29) to meet my friend on Lark Lane and my left pedal fell off on the way back home.

“I started feeling quite ill on the way back to my flat and when I got back to my building I locked the bike inside [in the entrance to the building] and rushed upstairs because I felt sick. I fell asleep and woke up feeling really unwell. I was bedbound for the next few days.” Trouble continued for Daniel when he found his bicycle had been removed, he told the ECHO.
He added: “I spent three days in bed with norovirus. On New Year’s Eve my daughter came to visit me and the bike was still downstairs. Then, on New Year’s Day, I went downstairs because I was finally feeling better enough to go out and the bike wasn’t there.
“Now I’m going to have to find a new bike or I’m going to be out of work. It’s a worry because Christmas cost me a lot of money, I’ve only just moved into this building and I’m supposed to be starting fresh. Moving in here was supposed to be a fresh start and this happens. I don’t even know how I’m going to cover my bills, the financial pressure this brings.
“It’s the beginning of the month and my bills are already coming in. I’ve got to buy food, pay bills and have a good time. I don’t know how I’ll manage if I can’t work. My main focus in life is my daughter, whenever she is with me I want to make sure I’ve got all her favourite things and she enjoys her time with me, I’m going to struggle.
“Times are hard enough at the moment anyway never mind with potentially being out of work. The building is locked, how have they got in? And it’s missing a pedal.”
Merseyside Police has since confirmed there was a report of a black and grey Carrera bike being taken from a property in Sefton Park.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We had a report that a black and grey Carrera bike had been taken from the communal hallway of a property on Ullet Road between 12pm on Tuesday 31 December and 8pm on Wednesday 1 January.
