Officials behind widening of extremism definition must be sacked, demand Tories

LEFTIE officials who drew up controversial proposals on widening the definition of extremism must be sacked, a senior Tory says.

Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick said those behind the “incorrect garbage are unfit to serve the public”.

He hit out after the leaked Home Office report into last summer’s riots said showing an interest in “gore” or conspiracy theories should be viewed as extreme.

It also said making “two-tier” policing claims showed a “right-wing extremist narrative” and recommended reversing a code of practice to limit policing of “non-crime hate incidents”.

Security minister Dan Jarvis tried yesterday to distance Labour from the report’s findings.

He said they “were not current or new government policy”.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp criticised plans to roll back limits on non-crime hate incidents.

He said: “To do so would waste police time and infringe freedom of speech.

“Any move away from this will enable the thought police to stop anyone telling uncomfortable truths that left wing lawyers do not like.”

Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman blasted: “Want to stop Pakistani rape gangs, end two-tier policing, or bring an end to mass immigration?

“We’re ‘far right’ now according to the Home Office.

“This nonsense . . . smears millions of decent people angry at how our country is being run.”

Kemi Badenoch’s bid for a national inquiry into child rape gangs was tonight blocked by Labour MPs
