If your lawn is suffering from persistent waterlogging, it’s time to improve the drainage and aerate the lawn, particularly in any specific wet patches. Enhancing the drainage in your lawn will help prevent patchy grass.
The method for improving drainage and aerating the lawn is straightforward – simply take a garden fork and spike the lawn where water tends to settle. Each forking should be about six inches deep and approximately 12 inches apart.
This depth of holes will drain the water below the roots of the existing grass. The existing grass will benefit from increased airflow to the roots, known as aeration, and the holes also help to reduce compaction.
