‘Only’ nine cities and towns in England and Scotland face more snow in January

NINE cities and towns in England and Scotland face more snow in January – with the exact locations of flurries confirmed by fresh snow maps and charts published ahead of the weekend. WX Charts maps and charts shows snow flurries across the north on January 24.

Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford, and York set to see around 2cm per hour from midday. Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, and Stirling are also likely to experience a brief flurry of snow, which will be largely confined to central and western areas.

The data comes from the Met Desk. Speaking out over the reports, a Met Office forecast spanning until January 24, 2025, explains: “High pressure is likely to lie close to or over the southern UK throughout this period, with generally settled conditions prevailing for many, if not all of the country.

“Cloud amounts will be variable and often large, with a chance of some fog developing under clearer spells, especially in the south where winds will be lighter, which could be slow to clear. Frontal systems may affect the northwest of the UK, bringing some rain and windier conditions here, especially to western Scotland.

“Temperatures are likely to be generally around or a little above average in the north and west, although southern and eastern parts may be colder at times, especially where overnight fog and frost is slow to clear.” It has also issued an outlook for the remainder of January beyond January 24.

Into February, the Met Office medium-term forecast says: “High pressure likely to dominate, especially in the south, bringing quiet, grey, and cool conditions here. Northern parts are more-likely to be unsettled but milder. This pattern will likely spread across the whole UK by the end of the period, leading to milder conditions with periods of rain and strong winds more widely.”

The update from the Met Office came on Thursday (January 9) at 3pm.
