A grass roots collective in Peckham has raised almost £40,000 to support communities directly affected by the conflict in Palestine.
On This Land Events has raised more than £38,000 for the Gaza Sunbirds following a jam-packed evening at Jumbi Peckham, in Copeland Park, on November 27, 2024.

The Gaza Sunbirds are a Palestinian para-cycling team which have been distributing essential supplies including shelter, food, essentials, water, sanitary products, toilets and more, to the Gazan community over the last fifteen months.
The event in November featured an auction, a live performance from South London psychedelic duo, Ghubara, and DJ sets from Daniele Mizar and Oscar Abdullah, as well as a speech from Gaza Sunbirds co-founder, Karim Ali.

Roxana Williams, founder of On This Land Events, said: “We have been floored by the support for our event, and the incredible amount of money we raised on the day, and well after.
“We are all volunteers who have full time jobs and busy lives, so being able to raise such a phenomenal amount for such an important cause has been incredible.”
On This Land Events will keep the fundraiser open until Wednesday, with the aim of reaching a grand total of £40,000.

Ms Williams said: “Every donation we get is currently being quadrupled thanks to a generous anonymous donor.
“You can still donate and make a massive difference to the people of Gaza”.
Almost 47,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s ministry of health. Many of those identified have been women, children and elderly.

Around 1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 were taken as hostages during Hamas’s October 7 attacks.
On January 19, a ceasefire deal came into force which has seen seven hostages and just under 300 Palestinian prisoners released so far.
