A woman suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car on a Birmingham street which led to the road being closed. The incident took place in Alwold Road in Weoley Castle to the south west of the city shortly before 9.30am on Thursday (January 9).
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one crew to the scene. There they found a woman pedestrian with serious injuries who had to be given ‘trauma care’.
She was then blue lighted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Selly Oak, which is a major trauma centre. The road was also closed after the incident.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.26am to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Alwold Road in Weoley Castle, Birmingham. One ambulance attended the scene.
“Upon arrival we found a woman who was the pedestrian. She was assessed and had sustained serious injuries. She received trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment.”
Alwold Road was partially blocked in both directions following the incident. National Express West Midlands confirmed it had to divert its number 76 bus service was being diverted down Weoley Castle Road, avoiding Alwold Road, Castle Road and Beckbury Road, due to the ’emergency service led incident’. It reported the incident as cleared shortly after 1pm with buses returning to their normal route.
