People who survive PIP crackdown from March could be handed free £749

Those who retain their Personal Independence Payment (PIP) following a Department for Work and Pensions crackdown in April will receive increased payments. Reports suggest the new Labour Party government could target PIP payments from March in the Labour Party Budget, marking a blow for claimants as payments are due to rise a month later, in April.

A 1.7 per cent uprating will see those on disability benefits receive between £29.20 and £187.45 each week, equating to £116.80 or £749.80 every four-week pay period. Over the financial year, this will result in those on the highest awards receiving an extra £9,747 in cash assistance.

It’s crucial to note that the top figure of £749.80 is based on someone receiving the highest award for both daily living and mobility components. Attendance Allowance does not include a mobility component.

If you’re considering making a PIP claim, an online ‘PIP test’ could provide an indication of the points you would be awarded, which determines the level of award you might receive – standard or enhanced rate.

It’s crucial to note that the free online ‘PIP test’ offered by the independent benefits advisory forum, Benefits and Work, does not guarantee eligibility for PIP. An application to the DWP for PIP also considers other eligibility factors, including supporting evidence on how a disability, physical or mental illness, or long-term health condition affects you, reports Birmingham Live.

As per DWP guidance on GOV. UK, entitlement to PIP is not solely based on an individual’s health condition or disability, but on the extent to which a long-term health condition or disability impacts an individual’s daily life or mobility.
