Plan to turn huge former Birmingham pub into a shisha lounge and restaurant

A plan has been submitted which could lead to the redevelopment of a landmark former pub into a shisha lounge and restaurant. The proposal would see the Village Green, on Marsh Hill, Stockland Green, brought back into public use after owners Greene King closed it back in November 2023.

If approved, there would be a restaurant on the ground floor with a shisha lounge at first floor. Plans include outdoor smoking areas, two storey side extension, amendments to car parking area and creation of new access from Dallas Road.

Efforts will be made to retain and restore original features such as brickwork, sash windows, and internal woodwork and, in general, maintain the “building’s historical character.”

A planning statement by architect Novus Haus said: “The proposed redevelopment of the Former Village Green Pub into a restaurant and shisha lounge is a rational and compliant reclassification of the site’s use. This change will preserve the site’s historical role as a community hub while enhancing its amenities and ensuring alignment with relevant planning policies.

“The reclassification supports the successful approval and implementation of the project, contributing positively to the Stockland Green area.” The application will go before city planners in the near future.
