A man and woman were arrested and £250,000 in cash seized after police stopped a blue Mercedes in Prescot. On Sunday, January 12, officers spotted the car driving at speed on Molyneux Drive at around 6.25pm.
Once stopped on Saunders Avenue, officers suspected the driver was under the influence of drugs. The car was searched and police found multiple bags of cannabis, £900 cash and documents associated with drug dealing.
A 33-year-old man from Knowsley was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis. Following the arrest, officers obtained a warrant to search a house in Prescot, where they found £250,000 to £300,000 of cash in a cardboard box in a bedroom and detained a woman inside.
A 30-year-old woman from Prescot was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property. The arrests form part of an investigation into the suspected importation of cannabis by parcel deliveries to a garage on Warrington Road, Prescot.
Chief Inspector Geoff Stewart said: “Thanks to the vigilance of officers on proactive patrol in Knowsley, we have been able to seize drugs destined for our streets and make arrests. Those who supply drugs in our communities are helping to sustain an illicit trade that relies on violence and intimidation.
“Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups who bring misery to our streets and I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward.”
