A police dog helped his handler detain three suspects in a matter of hours on New Year’s Day. PD Taro, a German Shepherd, was deployed to catch a suspect following a report of a burglary at a car dealership on Sandhills Lane, Liverpool at around 8.40 am on Wednesday, January 1.
A 25-year-old man from Wirral was arrested on suspicion of burglary other than dwelling and possession of a controlled drug Class B (cannabis). He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
At just after 10.10am yesterday police had a report of a domestic incident at a house in Kirkby in which damage had been caused to a property. A male was seen to make off and was tracked across a field by PD Taro and his handler and detained. Enquiries remain ongoing, police said.
Later that afternoon at around 2.40pm, police were contacted following reports a Chevrolet Captiva had been stolen from Woolfall Heath Avenue in Huyton. The car was later spotted by an officer and following a short pursuit the occupiers abandoned the car and fled.
PD Taro and handler chased a male to a nearby address with roads policing unit patrols and the male was detained. A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Matrix Inspector Simon Wilson said: “These three incidents just go to show the variety of ways we deploy our police dogs and their handlers when responding to reports of crimes and how efficient they are in helping to track and detain suspects.
“PD Taro had an excellent shift, detaining three suspects for a variety of offences including burglary and theft, in around six hours, proving what a valuable asset he is to the force.”
