Police issue update after man in his 30s killed in three-vehicle M6 horror crash

A man in his 30s was tragically killed after a being struck by a vehicle on the M6. It followed a horror crash involving two lorries and an Audi near Leyland.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway at Hunger Hill between J27 and J28 shortly after 3pm on Sunday (January 12). Lancashire Police said they were alerted to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian, an Audi A8 and two Scania HGVs.

Police closed the motorway for around seven hours after the pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, the force said.

In an update issued this morning (January 13), police said enquiries are ongoing and witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, are being urged to come forward.

Sgt Laura Kendall, of our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has very sadly lost his life following this collision, and first and foremost, our thoughts are with his loved ones at this very upsetting time. The motorway was closed for quite a significant amount of time, and I would like to thank those who waited patiently as our officers carried out their enquiries.

“We know the motorway network will have been busy at that time, so if you witnessed the incident, or if you have dashcam footage between J27 and J28, between 2:45pm and 3:05pm, please do get in touch with us.”
