Police launch manhunt after early-hours car-jacking and attempted burglaries

Police have launched a manhunt following a violent car robbery and several attempted burglaries in Cwmbran. Gwent Police have released doorbell footage of a person they want to speak to following several incidents in the Henllys area.

Police say there were attempted burglaries at five different addresses in Pant Yr Heol Close and Laburnam Drive between around 4.10am and 4.30am on Friday, December 6, 2024. A robbery was also reported on Henllys Way on the same day at around 4.40am which left a man injured.

Police say the victim, the driver of a red Nissan Qashqai, had stopped at road traffic cones and was threatened and assaulted. The offender then took off in the victim’s car and the car was later found abandoned nearby on Perthy Close. For the latest court reports, sign up to our crime newsletter here

The victim suffered a minor hand injury in the incident. Gwent Police said: “The suspect is described as a white man, about 5’11” tall, of a slim build, aged late twenties to early thirties. He was wearing a dark coloured, long sleeved, puffer style jacket with a hood, and had a mask covering his face up to his eyes.”

The force said the description of the suspect in the robbery also matches the suspected offender in the attempted burglaries. Police said: “Various lines of enquiry have been investigated however the suspect has not been identified yet.”
