An East London man accused of seriously assaulting a woman in Southend has been named by police. Kallen Maxwell, of Oak Road in Romford has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent following the attack in April 29 earlier this year.
The 27-year-old is also accused of robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place. Police were called to St Marys Court, on Victoria Avenue, Southend shortly before 4am to reports of a woman sustaining serious injuries.
She was taken to hospital for urgent treatment, but has been discharged since. Essex Police say five people were arrested in the days following the attack, as detectives still pursue several lines of enquiry.
On Christmas Eve officers stopped a car in Southend and arrested a man in the vehicle for a breach of his bail conditions. Maxwell was charged with the three offences following this.
He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Boxing Day and has been released on conditional court bail until his next hearing at Basildon Crown Court on January 24, 2025.
