Gillian Shaw has been charged with murder after Steven Cox died aged 63 in the early hours of New Year’s Day

A woman has been charged with murder after a man died following an assault on New Year’s Eve. Police were called to a domestic incident on Rothwell Street in Everton shortly after 4pm on Tuesday, December 31.
Steven Cox was found with “a number of serious injuries” at the scene. The 63-year-old subsequently died in hospital in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Gillian Shaw has now been charged with his murder. The 61-year-old, of Rothwell Street, appeared before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court this morning, Thursday, in order to face this count. Appearing in the dock wearing glasses and a grey prison issue tracksuit, she spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth during a brief hearing and was not asked to enter any plea.

Shaw, who sported long greying brown hair and was seen with her right hand in a splint, was remanded into custody by the panel of magistrates ahead of a further appearance before Liverpool Crown Court tomorrow, Friday. A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “A woman has been charged with murder following an incident at a house in Everton on Tuesday, December 31. Officers were called to an address on Rothwell Street just after 4pm following a report of a domestic-related assault.
“When they arrived, officers found a 63-year-old man who had suffered a number of serious injuries. The man was taken to hospital, where he sadly died in the early hours of Wednesday, January 1.
“Gillian Shaw, 61 years, of Rothwell Street, Everton, was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder. She was remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, January 2.
