Police seize £20k of drugs along with zombie knives in six-week crackdown in Lozells

Detectives have taken almost £20,000-worth of drugs off the streets in Lozells over the last six weeks. Police also made 18 arrests and seized £50,000 in cash during the crackdown.

A total of 35 charges followed the arrests. They included possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a bladed article.

Twenty vehicles were also seized, including cars, vans and motorbikes, along with weapons such as zombie knives and CS spray. The crackdown was launched following concerns raised by residents and businesses in the community.

Sgt Leon Butler, of West Midlands Police’s Operation Skybridge Team, said: “It’s been a hugely successful start for the team, which is made up of plain clothes and unformed officers.

“We’ve carried out dozens of stop and searches, made dozens of arrests, disrupted drug dealing on the streets and carried out numerous seizures of weapons, drugs and cars. We are also seized large amounts of drugs and numerous weapons which could have caused real harm out on the streets.

“This is pure proactive policing, causing maximum difficulty and disruption to those who are doing the most harm to our communities.”
