Prince Imperial Road Woolwich stabbing: Everything we know

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to Prince Imperial Road at 4.20pm on January 6 with reports of the stabbing.

They were dispatched to the scene where an 18-year-old male was found having been stabbed.

A fleet of emergency responders from the London Ambulance were also sent to the road, including the London’s Air Ambulance.

The teen was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by road.

His injuries have been confirmed as potentially life-threatening.

Several large police cordons have remained in place in the wake of the incident in the residential road.

The crime scene blocked access from Red Lion Lane into Prince Imperial Road, stretching across a green and onto pavements in front of garages and homes.

It is unclear when the scene will be taken down, though remnants showing the emergency response remains in place with medical first aid kits strewn on the pavement.

A neighbouring college, Shooters Hill Sixth Form in red Lion Lane, has been closed the entirety of today.

The sixth form uploaded an alert on its website, asking parents, carers and students to check their emails and messages for more information on the school’s closure.

Medical kits were left at the scene (Image: Newsquest) The message read: “Due to an incident in Prince Imperial Road near Shooters Hill Six Forum college we have been asked to close the organisation for the day and for students to work remotely and online.

“Apologies for any inconvenience.”

Students scheduled to sit exams today (January 7) were advised to attend as normal.

The victim of the stabbing has been confirmed as a pupil studying at the school in year 12.

Geoff Osborne, headteacher at Shooters Hill Sixth Form, told this paper: “At approximately 4.20pm offsite in Prince Imperial Road yesterday a young man who is in Year 12 at Shooters Hill Sixth Form College was stabbed.

“This incident continues to be investigated by the Police and we are not in a position to release more details other than that the young man is receiving medical care for his injuries.

“The college is offering support and counselling to anyone who has been affected by the incident.

“Our thoughts are with the family and the victim and we ask that everyone respects their privacy at this difficult time.”

According to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson, they are yet to make an arrest in connection to the stabbing.

The scene was manned by police officers (Image: Newsquest) People in the surrounding community have described the incident as “terrifying”, whilst others added that they were “not surprised” by it.

One person who wished not to be named said: ‘’Unfortunately these things are happening way too often, we didn’t see what happened here but once we were bringing the kids back from school we just saw loads of police and ambulance just swarm this part of the street. So scary.’’

A parent whose children go to school locally added: ‘’I also have children who go school near here.

“It’s honestly so terrifying that a young man has been stabbed. My thoughts are with him.’’

However Abdou, who has been part of the community for around 15 years, said it did not come as a shock to him.

He explained: ‘’It is always chaotic around here after and before school, so many students everywhere.

“You’d always see fights or people arguing. I’m not surprised that someone has been hurt.’’
