Prince William’s Birmingham Wetherspoons visit has Brummies all saying the same thing

Prince William was hailed as ‘very down to earth’ after being pictured in a Birmingham Wetherspoons. The future king sank a pint at the London and North Western in New Street station yesterday, Wednesday, January 15.

William, who was in the city to address the College of Paramedics inaugural emergency and critical care conference, supped on a Bulmers cider. He spent around 30 minutes with a number fellow Aston Villa fans before they caught a train to Liverpool to watch Villa beat Everton 1-0 in the Premier League at Goodison Park last night.

Scores of reader comments for the likeable Royal were left after news of his pub visit became public. Astonvilla_view posted: “I’m in no way a believer in the monarchy, but I really like this bloke. I really hope I get to see him on the throne, because I think he takes them to another level.

“Very down to earth, but still with that bit of mystic and aloofness. Exactly how it should be, imo. I think he’ll be incredibly popular with younger people.”

Other comments on Facebook said: “Bless him. Especially being a Villa supporter he’s got good taste.” A different user said: “That’s awesome, great chap will make a brilliant King.”

A different user said: “Fantastic photo very jealous let’s hope Villa win now.” Another said: “I wonder if he used the App.” Someone else added: “Absolutely fab! What a credit to our nation.”

Daniel Jones, 18, a sixth form college student from Burntwood, Staffordshire, said after meeting the Prince: “He was a lovely guy, proper down to earth and he loves Villa and the passion we all share.

“I think if he didn’t have other commitments he would have loved to have been at the match.”

John McEvoy, 64, from Solihull, who runs a catering equipment business, said: “William said a family friend took him to his first game – Villa against Bolton – and he’s loved the team ever since.

“He said he would be watching the match on TV (last night). He was just a really nice, genuine bloke who really loves Villa. He contacted the club and they contacted some of us to arrange this, we knew he was coming, but it’s the first time we’ve met him.

“William thought it would be a tough game tonight as (Everton) have their old manager David Moyes back and teams get a bounce when they have a change of manager.”
