A Merseyside school has permanently excluded one of its pupils after they admitted to being under the influence of drugs. The Prescot School on Knowsley Park Lane expelled the child at the end of last term.
Before the Christmas break, staff at the secondary school discovered that a pupil had taken an illegal substance. The child admitted to having taken a substance, but was not found to be in possession of anything when they were searched.
Further searches and interviews were conducted on pupils who had been in contact with the child but no drugs were found. A spokesperson for the school said: “At the end of last term, a student was permanently excluded after it was observed that they were under the influence of an illegal substance while on site.
“The student concerned admitted to having taken a substance, but they were not in possession of anything when they met with staff. Other students who had been in contact with this student were also questioned and searched – but nothing was found.
“Incidents like this are rare in our community, but we take the strongest possible action when they do occur. This not only includes sanctions, such as permanent exclusion, but also us helping the student to access support about their decisions to take drugs.”
