Redditch drug dealer jailed after M6 police chase

A drug dealer has been jailed after a motorway police chase. Officers had attempted to stop Theo Powell’s hire car which was being driven on the M6.

But the 24-year-old failed to stop and was pursued until the vehicle was stopped in Burbage, Leicester, in November last year.

A drone and a parcel containing drugs were found wrapped in clingfilm inside the car, Warwickshire Police said. A further search of his home address uncovered a large package containing drugs, police added.

Powell, of Bromsgrove Road, Redditch, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply Class A, B and C drugs, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and acquiring/possessing criminal property. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment following a hearing at Warwick Crown Court on December 20, last year.

Speaking after the case, investigating officer, Detective Constable Matthew Rapkins from the Serious Organised Crime team, said: “The supply of drugs is a crime that has a huge impact on the most vulnerable members of our community.

“We will proactively target people who we believe to be involved in drugs and use the powers we have to make sure their activity is disrupted.

“We welcome the sentence handed down by the court and encourage anyone with information about drug dealing in their community to contact us.”
