Regent Street evacuated after 'bomb threat' as police 'set off controlled explosions'

Shops and offices in Regent Street in central London were evacuated following a reported bomb threat as police set off controlled explosions.

Customers and office workers were seen packing the roads around Regent Street this afternoon as Met Police officers reportedly set off controlled explosions. An office worker told Mirror affiliate MyLondon he was informed of a bomb threat at about 1:10pm.

“We got reports of a bomb threat in a building behind New Burlington Place,” he said. “One of the members heard an explosion and police have been evacuating the streets.”

The outlet said there had been reports from the scene of two controlled explosions. The Mirror has contacted the Met Police for comment.

Video shared on social media shows a cordon had been put in place around Regent Street with police blocking people from walking along the pavement. Numerous police, ambulance and fire vehicles were seen close to Regent Street.

People took to social media to report there had been a “bomb scare” with others saying their offices had been evacuated. People were then urged to move toward Oxford Circus as police continue their investigation.
