Rylan Clark lost a stone during new project away from BBC Radio 2

Rylan Clark has shared that he shed a stone while working on a new project away from his regular presenting role at BBC Radio 2.

The 36-year-old returned to his usual Saturday afternoon radio show this weekend after taking a break over Christmas. While away, Rylan performed in Jack and the Beanstalk at Cliff Pavilion in his native Essex.

The star said he had “never done anything” like panto before. Although Radio 2 journalist Sally Boazman reassured Rylan he was “brilliant” and an “absolute natural”.

Rylan said: “I’ve never done anything like that before. I’ve lost a stone, my belly, flat as a pancake.”

Sally added: “I think you look great at the moment. I said to you earlier that you look really good. It’s because you’ve got that pinched look.”

Rylan attributed his fresh look to a “post-show glow”, explaining: “Cinched in at the sides, that’s me at the minute. That’s what it’s called, you cinch it around the waist.”

After wrapping up his panto stint, Rylan revealed he flew off to Spain for his next project, bringing his mum Linda along for the ride, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Former X Factor star Rylan returned to the stage alongside comedian and panto favourite Aaron James, who played the role of Silly Simon, actor Neal Wright, whose credits include West End shows such as Mamma Mia! and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Nic Greenshields, who most recently appeared as the Lion in the Wizard of Oz. The cast’s final performance was on January 5.

After the curtain came down, Rylan took to social media to share a picture of the cast and crew. He shared a snap on his Instagram stories, writing: “To this amazing lot, thanks for an amazing few weeks.”

He followed up with another message saying: “And just like that… The show was over. Thank you everyone who came to see the show. Truly has been a pleasure. And thank you everyone who worked on the show.”

After wrapping up the weekend, Rylan mentioned to his Radio 2 audience that he would be taking a few days off. This comes amid a flurry of activity from the entertainer, who has been seen keeping quite busy recently, not only appearing on BBC Two with Rob Rinder for their debut travel series but also hosting the new Paramount+ programme, Dating Naked UK, as well as the Amazon Prime reality series, Hot Mess Summer.
