Police are investigating following an incident on a bus yesterday morning which left a school girl shaken. On Thursday, January 16, it was reported to Merseyside Police that a man boarded a 49 bus on Lord Street in Southport and sat next to a teenage girl and reportedly touched her leg with his hand.

The girl was unharmed but left shaken by the incident, police have said. An investigation, CCTV and witness inquiries are ongoing to find the person responsible.

Following the incident a message, which has been shared with the ECHO, was sent to parents and carers from the school, which the girl attends. It said: “A female pupil was sitting alone and a man got on and sat beside her very closely. He places his hand on her leg and left it there.

“She initially froze, then managed to get past him and get off the bus. She descried him as a middle aged man wearing jogging trousers. The police have been informed.”

Detective Inspector Sara Lang said: “This was clearly a very distressing incident for the teenage girl and we are supporting her as we continue to investigate this incident. We are taking this report extremely seriously and we are determined to find the person responsible.

“There were other people on the bus at the time of the incident, so if you can remember what happened or witnessed anything, please let us know.”
