Schools CLOSED in Greater Manchester as snow hits second day of new term

Snow and freezing weather conditions have led to a number of schools keeping their doors closed on the first week of term. More than a dozen schools remained closed on Monday (January 6) after heavy snow hit Greater Manchester over the weekend.

Heavy snow returned to parts of the region in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday). A number of schools across Greater Manchester have closed their doors today, following weather-related incidents.

Oasis Academy Leesbrook, in Oldham, is closed due to adverse weather conditions. The school is aiming to reopen on Wednesday, according to Oldham Council.

Reddish Vale High School, in Stockport, is also fully closed today due to heating issues. Two primary schools in Stockport are partially closed, due to heating issues affecting part of their buildings.

Etchells Primary School, in Heald Green, is closed to pupils in years one, two, three and four. All other pupils are being taught in classes.

Thorn Grove Primary School, in Cheadle Hulme, has also partially closed due to a heating issue. Foundation and key stage one pupils are being taught on-site, with all other children learning from home.

Greater Manchester was hit by a weather warning for snow and ice until 10am today, with no other Met Office warnings currently in force for the region. Further sleet and wintry showers are expected to fall in the area throughout the day, while temperatures could fall to -2C tonight.
