Seven people arrested after man found collapsed in Liverpool city centre

The youngest was aged 15 as a large cordon was in place on the street

Seven people were arrested after a man was found collapsed in a Liverpool city centre street. Merseyside Police received a call from paramedics at North West Ambulance Service at around 12.45am on Thursday, January 2.

It followed a report a man had been found on Hanover Street, close to the junction of Church Street with a suspected head injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.

When the ECHO arrived at the scene this morning, a cordon was in place at the junction of Wood Street and Hanover Street from Irish bar O’Neill’s to nightclub Popworld. A smaller cordon was also in place next to kebab shop The F*word, on the corner of Bold Street and Hanover Street.

Police said witness and CCTV enquiries were carried out in the city centre and a total of seven people had been arrested. These include:

  • A 38 year-old man from Bootle, was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent
  • A 17 year-old male from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and affray
  • A 16 year-old male from Sheffield was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and affray
  • A 15 year-old male from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis).
  • A 17 year-old male from Salford was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent
  • An 18-year-old man from Salford was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent
  • A 17 year-old male from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent
