A car has been left in a shocking burnt out condition following a vehicle fire in Southwark. Eye-witnesses saw plumes of black smoke go up this afternoon, not far from New Kent Road.
Photographs show the shocking state the vehicle has been left in. They show extensive damage to both the interior and exterior, leaving the car as little more than an empty shell.
Black smoke was spotted billowing from the fire this morning at around 11am on Balfour Street (Thursday, January 2). The road was closed-off while firefighters battled the flames.

While the fire was short-lived, 32 emergency calls were received regarding the incident. The fire is not being treated as suspicious, although its cause has not yet been revealed.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended a vehicle fire in Balfour Street at 11:00hrs on Thursday, 2 January. The road was closed by officers while the London Fire Brigade extinguished the fire. The vehicle has since been recovered.
“The fire is not being treated as suspicious.” A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Crews were called to reports of a car alight on New Kent Road in Southwark.
“Control Officers took the first of 32 calls at 1053 and mobilised one fire engine from Dowgate Fire Station to the scene. The incident was over for firefighters at 1108.”
