Silent Witness star Emilia Fox has made a stunning confession as she opened up about her career.
While chatting with Kate Thornton on the White Wine Question Time podcast, the actress revealed how she hadn’t originally planned to begin a career in acting.
The 50-year-old said: “I did not want to be an actor at all. And mum and dad really encouraged me to carry on with my academic studying.”
Despite having forged a hugely successful career over the last four decades, Emilia was busy studying in university when her career in acting came about by chance.

It was only when she was working as a waitress in a pub in Primrose Hill during her summer break from studying in Oxford University that the owner and close family friend suggested that she should pursue a career in acting.
Shortly after their chat , Emilia arrived at the auditions of BBC’s Pride & Prejudice: “I hadn’t really considered it (acting), because I had wanted to do something different. But this opportunity came up to do an audition for Pride & Prejudice, they needed someone who could play the piano who looked young.”
Saying that she had ‘the best few weeks’ shooting the TV show, she admitted that she didn’t think ‘anything’ of her big break in acting and even confessed that she has ‘never seen it’.
Emilia burst onto our screens in 1995, in the highly popular BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice starring alongside the likes of Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, but it was her role as Nikki Alexander in Silent Witness that she is perhaps most well-known.
Playing the role of Nikki for the last 21 years, Emilia plays the lead role in the BBC crime drama that continues to captivate audiences to this day, 29 years since it first aired.
Silent Witness returned to our screens earlier this week for the first episode of it’s 28th series and is next set to air on Monday (January 13) on BBC One at 9pm.
