Solihull restaurant with ‘simple’ food named among UK’s ‘most beautiful’ places to eat

A restaurant in the West Midlands is in the running to be named Most Beautiful Restaurant in the country by the Good Food Guide. Grace and Savour, a restaurant based at Hampton Manor in Hampton-In-Arden, is in the running for the prize, the only restaurant north of Berkshire to make the shortlist.

Grace and Savour, which won a prestigious Michelin Star just one year after opening, is the creation of husband-and-wife team David and Anette Taylor. Since it opened in 2022, the food and service has matched the high standard of presentation at the restaurant which has gorgeous bare rafters and huge picture windows revealing a walled garden.

An open kitchen gives diners – who can spend the night at the venue – a chance to see the chefs at work. The fine dining menu demonstrates ‘coherence, innovation and artistry’ which the Good Food Guide reviewer said were ‘qualities on which the very top restaurants should be judged’ and which ‘Grace and Savour excels at’.

Grace and Savour is going up against London restaurants The Dover, Wildflowers and The Park for the prize, as well as Hearth in Hampshire and Woven by Adam Smith in Berkshire.

Describing Grace and Savour, the Good Food Guide said: “Forget the puff on Hampton Manor’s website: there’s not an ounce of flounce in David Taylor’s cooking. He strips down food to its essentials, its essences. The results are deceptively simple – and sensational.”

Back in November it was revealed that Stu Deeley’s Smoke, the second restaurant at Hampton Manor, would be closing. At that time, it was confirmed that David Taylor would be giving that space a fresh start, with the creation of new restaurant Kynd.

Grace and Savour is the third restaurant in our region to be shortlisted for a Good Food Guide Award this year. Opheem, Aktar Islam’s restaurant on Summer Row, is up for overall Restaurant of the Year while Alex Claridge’s seafood-focused spot Albatross Death Cult, down in the Jewellery Quarter, competes to be named Best New Restaurant.
