Streaming service to rival Apple and Netflix has 97 million users – and it's free

Netflix, Apple TV+, Prime Video and Disney+ have a fast-growing rival that you don’t have to shell out an arm and a leg for.

With prices rising each year, streamers may be spoilt for choice but the cost of their weekly binge-watch is getting out of hand.

Thankfully, there could be a solution as Fox’s rival platform Tubi is getting more popular by the minute.

In fact, it recently revealed its number of subscribers has grown to 97 million – all of whom aren’t paying a single penny for its wide range of content.

It claims to offer “the world’s largest collection of movies and TV episodes, including over 300 original exclusive originals”.

The only catch? Your viewing will occasionally be interrupted by adverts in return for not requiring bank details, much like watching TV used to be just a few years ago.

Titles range from cult classics like Donnie Darko and Cruel Intentions to fan-favourite TV shows like Peep Show and Gracepoint.

Tubi also boasts an incredible range of original content, with the streaming service saying that one in four viewers are tuning in alongside their more vintage titles.

One of their more recent series, Sidelined: The QB and Me, was released back in November and quickly made history, attracting Tubi’s biggest viewership in its first week.

There are also plenty of new releases to look forward to in 2025, including a Western thriller starring Peter Dinklage and Juliette Lewis called The Thicket.

Another workplace comedy to rival The Office and Parks and Recreation, The Z-Suite, is also in the works, plus the streamer has also jumped on board the second series of BBC’s Boarders.

Although the advertisement-driven model has been criticised by some viewers, others are thrilled to finally find a free platform with a wide selection of originals and classics.

“I like Tubi cus it has ads,” one user said on X. “Gives me time to reply to text messages.”

And someone else said: “Tubi is low key one of the best streaming services. You get ads but otherwise it’s totally free and the selection rules.”

In response to Tubi’s huge success for the start of 2025, CEO Anjali Sud said: “Tubi’s momentum is growing as audiences increasingly value a premium entertainment experience that is also 100% free, fun and reflective of culture.

“Our strategy is simple yet powerful: put viewers first by offering unique stories from unique storytellers, a vast selection of content to choose from and a delightful experience across devices.

“We let our viewers guide us and obsess over their engagement, and we are seeing the results.”
