Strictly Come Dancing’s Vito Coppola announces tour replacement as he battles health issue

Strictly Come Dancing’s Vito Coppola has announced he will be replaced on the live tour as he battles a health issue. The professional dancer, who made it through to the final of the last series with Miranda actress Sarah Hadland and won the show in 2023 with Ellie Leach, said he would be stepping back from several performances on the tour.

It comes after he revealed he is ‘battling lower back pain’. Fellow Strictly Come Dancing pro Nikita Kuzmin will be taking his place on the floor with Sarah for at least the first three performances of the live tour, which kicks off in Birmingham on Friday.

Speaking on This Morning, he said: “I have a little injury. We are used to having a little bit of pain in the body, but I’m battling some lower back pain at the moment.

“I can walk and move, but going and doing full-on dancing with lifting and sharp twists… it’s best at the moment to have a little rest. But hopefully, I will be able to dance again from the Sheffield shows.”

Anton Du Beke will also be stepping in for Vito at the Dance with Us classes alongside Shirley Ballas. An update read: “We have an update regarding the Birmingham classes. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Anton Du Beke will be stepping into Vito’s place to teach with Shirley in Birmingham on both Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January. Shirley and Anton can’t wait to dance with you in Birmingham!”

Fans have rushed to comfort Vito following the sad news. One wrote “I feel so sad for Vito, he was soooo excited about these dance classes,” while another added: “Ahhh I hope Vito is OK but I’m as excited to see Anton with Shirley on the 18th.”
