Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks has told how he received some ‘horrendous’ messages which were ‘heartbreaking’ while he was at his most ‘vulnerable’ during his stint on the show.
The former TOWIE cast member, 36, wowed Strictly fans as he reached the semi-finals in the series that finished last month. Pete, who was dancing with professional Jowita Przystal, said he received some ‘beautiful’ messages during his time on the BBC reality show – but others were ‘horrendous’.
He told the Times: “Some of the messages I got were beautiful, but the horrendous ones were heartbreaking. I’ve learnt you shouldn’t take too much interest in the good stuff or listen to the bad stuff, but normally I’m in control of the narrative.
“This was me at my most vulnerable I’ve been on television, so the negative stuff was harder to take.”

Some Strictly superfans sent Pete death threats as they perceived he stayed in the competition so long due to his supposed popularity rather than his dancing prowess.
The TV personality admits he still can’t dance and says the show hasn’t changed his life as he’s still the same person he is when he entered Strictly. His appearance on the show does seem to have gained him some new fans though.
Pete added: “A lot of people have messaged me saying they had an opinion of me beforehand, and then they actually appreciated what they saw in the show, which is lovely.”

Pete is rumoured to be dating Maura Higgins, who was starring on I’m A Celebrity while Pete was strutting his stuff on the Strictly dancefloor. The couple have appeared to be inseparable after finishing their respective reality shows.
During a recent appearance on ITV show This Morning, Maura confessed she slipped up during her time in the I’m A Celebrity camp as she pined for Pete when she was trying to keep their fledgling relationship a secret.
She told host Alison Hammond: “You do forget about the cameras, and I do like to keep things private. But let’s be real, I said it. I can’t remember saying it, but I said the words ‘I miss him’. I do miss him, like I missed all my friends and family. Honestly, he’s been so supportive, honestly. I didn’t know if he was still in Strictly and I’m so proud of him, he’s proud of me, and I can’t wait to see him when I get back.”
