Suspect caught curled up in corner of garden in bid to hide from cops

A man suspected of stealing a car who made off from the scene of a crash was found curled up in the corner of a garden in a bid to evade cops.

The National Police Air Service released footage of the suspect unsuccessfully hiding after he fled from officers after a collision on Hyde Road in Manchester on Saturday evening (January 11).

The service joked he would get a ‘low three out of ten’ for his hiding skills, adding he had been taken into police custody.

“Yesterday evening we assisted @gmpolice in the West Gorton area,” they wrote. “Our latest contestant in this episode of Hide & Seek made off from offices following a vehicle pursuit…. As you can see, one for the cells. We’d give this hiding spot a low 3/10.”

The man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “At 4:30pm yesterday (Saturday 11 January) we were called to reports of a car making off from the scene of a road traffic collision on Hyde Road in Manchester.

Police apprehended the man

“Specialist resources were deployed, and we worked with NPAS to trace the suspect.

“A 17 year old male was located hiding in a garden off Rostron Avenue. He was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.”
