Suspected thief arrested after man bitten on hand and legs in assault near North London bus stop

A man has been arrested after an assault victim was bitten on their hand and legs whilst trying to detain an alleged thief. Police were called to East Finchley High Road at 7.17pm yesterday (Thursday, January 9) to reports of a robbery and assault.

This was after two victims were approached by two men at a bus stop on multiple occasions in a short span of time. These men proceeded to steal their phones and threaten the victims.

A member of the public was assaulted as they tried to detain a man. This person was bitten on the hand and on their legs.

When police arrived at the scene, they arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault. He has since been released but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers were called at 19:17hrs to East Finchley High Road on Thursday, 9 January following reports of a robbery and assault.

“Two victims were approached by two men at a bus stop at separate times within a short period, who stole their phones and threatened them. One member of the public was assaulted whilst detaining a man. The victim of the assault was bitten on the hand and legs.

“Officers arrived at the scene and a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault. He has since been released under investigation whilst enquiries remain ongoing.”
