Teacher 'had baby with 13-year-old' and was only caught when boy's dad noticed odd detail

A teacher has been charged after she allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old in her home and had a child with the boy – discovered years later by her victim’s father.

Laura Caron, a 34-year-old from New Jersey, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The year five teacher at Middle Township Elementary School allegedly carried out the assaults between 2016 and 2020.

She is alleged to have begun sexually assaulting the boy while he lived at her home during those four years when he was 13. Caron was 28 at the time and went on to have a child with the boy in 2019, according to police.

The serious allegations only came to light when the boy’s father wrote a social media post in December 2024 that said Caron’s son – then five – looked very similar to himself and his son. Officials said Caron taught the victim and his brother while they were in year five.

The parents of the victim became friends with Caron over the years and led to them staying at her home at time and then permanently from between 2016 and 2020, authorities said in court documents. The victim’s sister, who also stayed at the home, told police that Caron allegedly slept with her brother in the same bed when he was 11.

In a text to his sister, the victim is alleged to have admitted that he was the father of Caron’s child and asked for it to be kept a secret. The victim’s brother is also alleged to have told police that he saw Caron sexually assaulting the boy.

“On January 15, 2025, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit along with the Middle Township Police Department took Ms Caron into custody without incident,” The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said. “Subsequently, a court authorised search warrant was executed at Ms Caron’s residence.”

The statement continued: “In response to the incident, the Middle Township School District has ben notified and is cooperating with law enforcement. Counselling and support services are being made available to students, staff and families who have been affected by this news.”

Prosecutor Sutherland said following the arrest: “This arrest underscores the unwavering commitment of our office and law enforcement partners to protect the children in our community. Teachers hold a position of great trust, and the allegations in this case represent a deeply troubling breach of that trust. We work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and to support the victim and their family throughout this process.”

Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super commented on Caron’s arrest, adding: “The welfare of children is of the upmost importance, and we are fully dedicated to pursuing justice in cases like this. Parents and guardians place immense trust in educators, and when trust is violated, it impacts everyone.

“I want to personally assure the parents of Middle Tonwship that we are taking every step possible to ensure the safety of our children. Our department is working closely with the Prosecutor’s Office to ensure that every aspect of this case is thoroughly investigated. If there are others who may have relevant information, I urge them to come forward immediately. No piece of information is too small when it comes to protecting our community.”
