Tearful Cheltenham groom shocks bride who says she’s ‘never seen him cry’

A groom was moved to tears when, in a touching change to wedding tradition, his grandparents took on the role of flower bearers. Faye Pierce and her husband George, both 27, tied the knot at the picturesque Middle Stanley farm near Cheltenham on July 20 last year.

The couple invited George’s grandparents, Jenny Bayliss, aged 80, and her spouse Brian, aged 82, to carry out the adorable duty usually reserved for younger members of the family. A heartwarming video captured the moment the pair walked down the aisle, scattering petals while holding hands, capturing the hearts of everyone present.

George, who shares a special bond with his grandparents, embraced the sentimental gesture as there were no children at their wedding. Faye, who is also a singer and sales professional from Winchcombe in Gloucestershire, shared: “George’s granddad even set aside his walking stick for the big moment.

“They were so proud and excited to be part of it. Involving them in this way felt so meaningful and it’s something we’ll treasure forever.”

Although George is known for his composure, the sight of his cherished grandparents taking part in their ceremony was overwhelming. According to Faye: “I’ve never seen him cry in the eight years we’ve been together.”

She explained how the moment was too much for George who found it impossible to keep his composure: “But when he saw them walking down the aisle, he couldn’t hold it together.” George remained deeply moved throughout the celebration.

The wedding was particularly poignant for Faye and George, whose love story began whilst they were both students at the University of Surrey back in 2017. Reflecting on their journey together, Faye said: “We’ve done so much together over the years but this day felt like the culmination of it all.”

The day had even more touching moments in store for the grandparents, as the newlyweds gave them a special moment in the spotlight on the dance floor. Faye explained: “We invited all married couples to dance floor, where they gradually exited by length of marriage.

“Since George’s grandparents were the oldest couple at the ceremony by the end it was just them dancing alone. It was like revisiting their ‘first dance’. I’ve never seen him cry in the eight years we’ve been together.

“They’re the heart of the family and having them be part of our day in such a meaningful way meant the world to us. It was such a special way to honour their love and legacy.”
