TfL London tube, DLR and bus changes for 2025 listed

Last year, the Overground network was given individual line names, and new Superloop bus routes came into operation.

Over the next 12 months, further major changes are expected on Transport for London (TfL) trains and buses.

This includes the rollout of new Piccadilly line trains and new entrances for existing Tube stations.

Here, we break down some of the plans for the London transport network in 2025.

Tube

New trains will start to be rolled out on the Piccadilly line by the end of the year. These will be walk-through, with air conditioning and wider doors.

A new entrance at Colindale station will open. The station was closed earlier this year when construction work started, but has since re-opened in a temporary state. The new ticket hall is expected to open in autumn 2025.

Work is under way to build a new entrance and ticket hall at Elephant & Castle station. Excavation for new passenger tunnels will start this year.

Transport for London (TfL) is rolling out new signalling on the Circle, Hammersmith & City, District and Metropolitan lines to improve journey times and train frequency. A section of the new system on the Metropolitan line between Finchley Road and Preston Road will come into service this year.

Work to provide 4G mobile coverage on the Tube network continues this year. The network will be expanded along the Northern line towards Morden, as well as between King’s Cross St Pancras and Moorgate.

Work is expected to start on providing step-free access at Leyton station and Northolt station.

DLR

By spring 2025, TfL is expected to present its outline business case for a planned DLR extension to Beckton Riverside and Thamesmead. This would precede discussions about how to fund the plans.

Bus

Bus route 347 between Romford and South Ockendon will be withdrawn on January 17.

From February 2025, bus route 118 from Morden to Brixton will be withdrawn. Services will also change on routes 45 and 59 as a result.
