The 2 walkable European cities perfect for solo travellers

2025 is set to see a surge in holidaymakers flying solo, with lone travellers hoping to take in the sights at their own rhythm while saving money, too. Even if it feels like stepping out of your comfort zone, a solo holiday can be the perfect way to relax while exploring and seeking out new experiences.

Brittany Mendez, a travel expert at Smoky Mountains, explained some of the benefits that can come from going it alone, saying: “Solo travel can bring some amazing benefits to your mental health, and it can provide a unique way of discovering yourself for many. It can truly make for a spiritual and transformative experience, especially in the midst of a major life transition.”

Taking the top spot, Smoky Mountains crowned Prague as the its number one destination for solo travellers, and it’s a steal with the average week-long stay costing £70 last year. It’s chock-full of history like the breathtaking Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, dating back to 1300BC.

Next on their list is Krakow, a Polish gem that won’t break the bank, where you can soak up the city while staying in youth hostels. All-in, a seven-day stay costs around £570 including flights and food. The city also offers numerous walking tours for visitors, with the Old Town boasting stunning architecture and pedestrian-friendly streets, reports the Express.

The Smoky Mountain’s top 5 list of solo travel destinations includes:

  1. Prague, Czech Republic
  2. Krakow, Poland
  3. Cairo, Egypt
  4. Lima, Peru
  5. Paris, France

When travelling solo, it’s important to stay alert and keep your belongings secure. The .Gov website lists several recommendations for solo travellers to stay safe, including arranging airport transfers in advance, only using licenced and reputable taxis, carefully researching accommodation and preparing backup options, and bringing a door wedge to place behind your accommodation door.
