Parking fines surged on a busy Birmingham Road in 2024 – more than doubling compared to the previous year as thousands of drivers were punished for breaking the rules. Traffic wardens were out in force on Stratford Road in Sparkhill.
They handed out over 5,000 penalty charge notices (PCNs) in the year to November as motorists fell foul of parking rules. It was a huge increase on the 2,463 fines that were issued on Stratford Road in 2023.
It moved the road up second on the list for most parking fines in Birmingham. The Sparkhill section of Stratford Road is now only behind Alum Rock Road among the city hotspots. Drivers were fined for parking on double yellows, failing to pay and overstaying.
