The cities in Britain set to be hit with snow from today

Parts of Britain are set to be hit with more snowfall over the coming days as the big freeze continues. Some areas could see snow today (Wednesday), while others are set for flurries this weekend.

It comes after snow and ice have wreaked havoc in worst-hit areas over the last few days. Snow and sleet is forecast for London and parts of the south east from around 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.

But it’s expected to be a clear day for much of the rest of the UK. More areas could see snow from Saturday morning as another weather system rolls in.

Sleet is currently forecast for the West Midlands, including Birmingham and Wolverhampton, on Saturday morning. Up in Scotland, major cities including Glasgow and Edinburgh are also forecast for snow on Saturday morning.

It comes as sub-zero temperatures are expected on Wednesday night. Weather maps show temperatures in the West Midlands could plummet as low as -7C. Temperatures should finally begin to improve from the start of next week.

The Met Office weather forecast says: “Sleet and snow clearing the south this evening (Wednesday), then becoming dry overnight. Freezing fog patches forming, with icy stretches. A few wintry showers continuing in the northwest. A severe frost.

“Thursday will be another cold day, with plenty of sunny spells. A few fog patches lingering once more and further wintry showers possible in the northwest.

“Dry for many Friday, with some sunshine. Cloudier in the far west, with patchy rain and snow. Cloudy over the weekend, with some rain and hill snow, though eventually milder.”
