The ‘high turnover’ Birmingham dessert shop known for Netflix stunts up for sale

A dessert shop in the heart of the Selly Oak that boasts ‘high footfall’ and a ‘high turnover’ is on the market. Ciao Bella, which is situated on the Bristol Road in an area very popular with students, has been listed on RightBiz with sellers asking £70,000 for the leasehold.

According to the listing, the dessert shop – which sells waffles, gelato, sundaes and more – has an annual turnover of £180,000, or £3,462 a week. The ‘fully fitted’ and ‘thriving’ shop is being sold ‘fully fitted and ready to operate’.

As well as the ‘well-designed kitchen’ and ‘established customer base’, those marketing Ciao Bella says it is a ‘turnkey opportunity’ in which current staff and be kept on, with full training provided. The take-away has a food hygiene rating of five, the highest achievable mark given by the food standards agency.

Ciao Bella is one of a vast number of takeaways on its stretch of the Bristol Road, with many businesses thriving because of the high number of student houses in the area. While owners of the four-year-old dessert shop is offering to sell the store as-is, it says ‘the space offers endless possibilities’.

In the listing, it states: “The space offers endless possibilities for new owners with its CLASS E Planning, it can trade as a cafe, restaurant, retail premises and more. Its prime location and adaptable layout make it perfect for a range of food business models -whether you want to continue as a dessert restaurant or transform it into a coffee shop, bistro, or takeaway, the choice is yours.”

The restaurant is based near to Selly Oak rail station as well as a Tesco Express, Aldi and a number of other food vendors including popular Japanese venue Yakinori and a branch of Dixie Chicken.

Ciao Bella has made the news a few times since it opened. It attracted national attention when a gravity-defying Stranger Things dummy was suspended above its entranceway during Halloween 2022 and the year before, it drew in hundreds of visitors to its Squid Game party.
