The London Underground, a world-renowned and historic transport system, is chock-full of intriguing trivia and historical nuggets.
Among its 272 stations, Highgate station in North London has the longest platform on the network, able to accommodate nine-car trains.
This unique feature was designed with future extensions at other stations in mind, according to Reddit user mycketforvirrad. The deep-level platforms at Highgate stretch an impressive 490 feet (150m), making it the perfect fit for extra-long nine-car trains.
Since its birth in 1863 as the world’s first underground railway aimed at easing street congestion, the London Underground has expanded massively.

It now boasts 11 lines that weave their way across the capital.
The Northern line was originally set to be serviced by extra-long trains that were supposed to reach Highgate. However, these plans never materialised as they were scrapped at the start of the Second World War.
