The Masked Singer UK fans ‘work out’ Bear’s true identity and it’s ‘obvious’

The identity of The Masked Singer’s Bear has left viewers scratching their heads, but some eagle-eyed fans reckon they’ve already cracked the case – and they’re certain it’s a no-brainer.

Speculation began to swirl after the bear character belted out a tune from the musical Oliver!, leaving everyone gobsmacked by their vocal talent. However, it wasn’t just Bear’s stellar performance on Saturday night that got the internet sleuths talking.

Many are now claiming to have figured out who is concealed beneath the mask. Kicking off the show alongside Bush, Toad In The Hole, Pegasus, Pufferfish, and Wolf, the cuddly bear was decked out in regal red garb.

Clues that set tongues wagging included references to performing in the West End as a “cub” before delivering a rendition of the well-known song, You’ve Got to Pick A Pocket Or Two, according to the Mirror.

Another clue that made fans suspect the character could be a Hollywood star came when Bear announced: ”The stage is set, the audience awaits, and I am hungry for the competition.”

After his performance, Bear recited a riddle: “I’m walking the stage and displaying my toil, but I’m also at home amongst flowers and soil.”

Viewers have been piecing together all the clues provided on the show and are now increasingly convinced that actor Michael Sheen, known for A Very Royal Scandal, is the man behind the adorable furry mask.

The connection was made after fans recalled his impressive vocal talents, which were showcased during a carpool karaoke segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

On X (formerly Twitter), fans shared their theories, with one stating: “Bear is…Michael Sheen?”

Another asked: “Why does Bear sound like Michael Sheen?” A third fan confidently declared: “I’ll eat my own hat if bear isn’t Michael Sheen.”

Further sleuthing on Reddit revealed more hints, including a bowl of porridge and a Goldilocks sign, which seemed to suggest Michael Sheen’s involvement. One fan played detective, analysing the evidence and concluding: “It’s Michael Sheen.”

“Trained with RADA. Acted in The Globe, done loads of Shakespeare both shows, audiobooks etc. Dated Kate Beckinsale who’s dad was in Porridge and is blonde like Goldilocks. Did car pool karaoke and sang West End girls with Rhys what’s his name. (Best episode of car pool karaoke ever).”

The same user highlighted additional hints, including Michael’s involvement with Welsh youth theatre, his decision to turn down a youth contract with Arsenal, and his participation in a charity event where he signed a portrait painted with coffee.

Bear showcased his singing talents

Meanwhile, on the show, Bear seems to have left the judging panel baffled, but Maya Jama and Jonathan Ross appeared to have garnered the most audience support for their own guesses.

The Love Island presenter was utterly intrigued by the tantalising hint: “The stage is set, the audience awaits, and I am hungry for the competition,” which led her to speculate that the renowned Gordon Ramsay might be the celebrity under the mask.

Meanwhile, Jonathan’s musings were guided in a different direction; he found himself fixated on an earlier clue involving a bowl of porridge showcased during Bear’s revealing introductory sequence. His hunch? That it could very well be Christopher Biggins hidden beneath the disguise.

He reasoned that the cryptic message might connect to the iconic 1974 series Porridge, noting that panto star Biggins’ career had been given a boost by his appearances on the show.

The Masked Singer UK returns to screens on ITV1 and can be streamed via the hub.
