The North Wales schools closed as cold snap continues

A number of schools are closed today in North Wales as the cold snap continues. It follows winter weather warnings over the weekend and another alert for ice which finishes at midday today.

Yesterday Met Office chief forecaster Jason Kelly said: “With cold weather persisting across the UK this week, we have a number of severe weather warnings for wintry hazards. Snow showers will continue to fall over Scotland, Northern Ireland and into Northern Wales and northern England too.

“Where surface water and snow freeze overnight there is a risk of ice as temperatures widely dip below freezing. There will however be good spells of sunshine for those away from northern coasts, though it’ll still feel cold in the northerly breeze.”

As a result of the continuing winter weather, some schools have been closed today in Flintshire. They are:

  • Flint, Gwynedd Primary School.

  • Flint, St Marys Catholic Primary School

  • Flint, Cornist Park School

  • Ysgol Pen Coch

  • Holywell, Ysgol Gwenffrwd

  • Nannerch V.C. Primary School

  • Trelawnyd, Voluntary Aided Church in Wales Primary School

No other schools have been reported closed by North Wales local authorities, as of 8.40am today.
