The New Year is just around the corner and lots of people will be looking for ways to move more going into 2025. Walking is one of the best free ways to get more active and spend more time outdoors.
And while London is a sprawling concrete jungle, there are plenty of pockets of nature for people to explore, with its numerous parks, canals and mini forests.
So if you’re looking to start the New Year off with a ‘step in the right direction’, this walk sees you complete an eight-mile route over three hours along Regent’s Canal.
And if you’re trying to get your 10,000 steps in this year, this route will see you complete roughly 17,000 depending on your height. But best of all there’s a whole host of pubs to check out along the way, as well as a beautiful meander through one of East London’s loveliest parks.
The route

The walk will begin on Camden Road, NW1, from which you will make your way towards The Constitution Pub. From there you will walk to Tom Dixon Post Office and continue along the Regent’s Canal Towpath until you reach Victoria Park.
You can then make your way down the beautiful Victoria Park towards the Cherry Pub in Mile End. Follow the Canal Path and then head through Poplar and then make your way to Canary Wharf where you will finish your walk at The Gun, Docklands.
Once you’ve finished you’ll have completed a lovely 8-mile walk along the canal. You can then either make your way back to the starting point or head back from Canary Wharf ’s various stations.
