A memorial space for The Vivienne is being created to give people to space to grieve. At the upcoming RuPaul’s DragCon, an annual convention, a dedicated booth will be set up to allow fans to express their condolences and pay homage to the trailblazing star.
The news of the 32-year-old’s death over the weekend was confirmed by their publicist Simon Jones. In an emotional Instagram post, he explained how the renowned Cher impersonator, who began their career on the Pride Quarter’s Stanley Street, was more than just a client but also a friend.
Simon said: “James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted and amazing person. Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career.”

In light of the news, RuPaul’s DragCon, which takes place this weekend in London, announced the new measures and paid tribute to The Vivienne. Taking to social media, the company said: “As we all move through this weekend together, we know that many of us will want to celebrate The Vivienne by sharing condolences with those close to her.
“Please be mindful that we all process and experience grief differently, and some people might not be ready yet to talk about the loss of someone important to them.
“At the upcoming DragCon event, attendees can pay their respects to The Vivienne in a specially designated memorial area. A booth will be dedicated for people to share their condolences and talk about The Vivienne if they wish.

“Additionally, the Switchboard LGBTQ+ helpline will be present for those who need support or someone to talk to. We cannot wait to see everyone this weekend and fill the room with love.”
In a statement on Monday, January 6, Cheshire Police said officers had been called to an address in Chorlton-by-Backford, near Chester, at 12.22 pm on Sunday following reports of a sudden death. The spokesman added: “Police attended, investigated the circumstances of the death of the 32-year-old man and concluded there were no suspicious circumstances. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
