These pensioners warned ‘no further payments’ from April

Pensioners who still claim tax credits have been warned there will be no further payments from April. Tax credits are being scrapped, with claimants being moved over to either Universal Credit or Pension Credit.

The majority of claimants should have already been moved off tax credits and will no longer be receiving them. But anyone who is still on them has told there will be no more payments from April.

Anyone who has been sent a migration notice in the post but hasn’t yet acted on it is being urged to do so as soon as possible. These notices let benefit claimants know they need to apply for Universal Credit or Pension Credit.

It marks another step in the huge overhaul of DWP benefits, with a number of others also being phased out in favour of Universal Credit and Pension Credit. Hundreds of thousands of people have had their benefits stopped after failing to meet the deadline to apply.

The Government explained: “Universal Credit is replacing tax credits. If you do not claim by the deadline date in that letter your existing tax credits payments will stop, even if you have just renewed your tax credits claim.

“If you are claiming tax credits and are state pension age or over, the DWP or the Department for Communities (Northern Ireland) will write to you to ask you to apply for Universal Credit or Pension Credit, depending on your circumstances. A very small number of customers will not be eligible for Universal Credit or Pension Credit.

“These customers will be able to remain on and receive tax credits until April 5, 2025, unless a change in their circumstances ends tax credits sooner. After this date, tax credits will end, and no further tax credits payments will be made.”
