This is how cold North Wales will get as cold snap bites

North Wales has been disrupted by winter weather in recent days with another yellow weather alert for snow and ice ending this morning (Tuesday) at 10am. Yesterday some main roads were closed due to flooding, a small number of schools were affected by the weather and today there were a number of flood alerts in the north east of Wales.

Although there are currently no further weather alerts as of 10.30am for North Wales, Met Office weather maps show it is going to remain cold across the region in the coming days, with it dropping below zero at times. The coldest it will get overnight tonight, is in the Bala and Blaenau Ffestiniog areas, with it set to drop to -2C by 6am.

But, according to the national weather forecasting agency, it will drop to as low as -4C in the early hours of Thursday, at 3am, in the Bala and Ruthin areas, as the cold winter snap continues. Wrexham and St Asaph areas are also forecast to see temperatures of -3C.

Elsewhere in Wales temperatures early on Thursday morning will drop as low as -6C in Lampeter and -5C in several other areas. Temperatures will rise around midday, however the mercury won’t rise beyond 5C.

The Met Office forecast for Wales currently says: “Tonight: Any lingering showers soon fading, leaving a dry night with clear spells. Turning cold under the clear skies with a widespread frost forming, and some icy stretches possible. Minimum temperature -7 °C.

“Wednesday: A little cloudier on Wednesday with some rain and perhaps hill snow in the far south for a time. Feeling cold with light winds. Maximum temperature 6 °,” with the Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: “Brighter on Thursday with sunshine and isolated showers. Cloudier on Friday and Saturday with outbreaks of rain and hill snow for a time. Cold, but turning milder by the weekend.”
